I just wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed your section of Biology 107. I am contemplating some type of biology major and your class really helped me see many sides of the vast fields of biology, and also sparked a lot of interest in me for different topics. I also can't complement you enough on the amazing resources you have available on the web. I spent a lot of time studying at my desk in front of my computer with some type of animation playing on the screen! It was so helpful in so many ways. Thank you!The web activities have also been invaluable to me and I think they are a wonderful tool. It made such a difference, after reading the chapter, to go and take the quizzes, do the activities and read over your notes. I love the Biology Place. My little brother is a sophmore in high school and he is taking biology right now. I was amazed to come home and see him on the computer, and Biology Place on the screen. His teacher recommended it to the class. I boasted to them that "my professor is part of that, he made some of the activities...!"
The internet materials were great. I especially enjoyed having the notes to each lecture available before class because it allowed me to pay more attention to the lectures.
The quizzes on the internet were the most helpful in preparing for the exam.
.... i would have to say, i learn more and i am more interested in learning when i know that all my information for the class is at my fingertips and organized... having web access is as if i have you to call at any time i need to.. and the links make visual learning easier and fun..... i trully (sic) wish all my science porfessors (sic) took the time that you do to create such an informative web page.....
The notes on the internet saved a lot of time writing in class and game me more time to listen and learn.
The animations on the internet were great. They truly gave me a full understanding of the material.
Our involvement on the Internet project has been the most exciting task that I have been a part of in my college studies. I highly recommend this method of teaching. It promotes; teamwork, research, responsibility and accomplishment. Our work brought the concept of global networking to reality, far beyond the confines of a lecture hall or paper test...This is the first tangible assignment that I can go back to and review with great pride and interest.
Internet materials were excellent! Lecture notes were very helpful! Personal webpage was also very good.
Dr. Terry's web are awesome. They helped me so much in this course and are such a great way to practice the conceps. I have never taken a course with such a resource, and I really appreciated it.
Dear Sir, I am a student at Middle Tennessee State University and a friend of mine stumbled along on your website with your notes on it, we are both taking micro this semester and they have helped us enormously with studying. They are more detailed than the notes that our professor has given us and I thought that I would let you know how much it has helped us to be able to look at a more through set of notes to help with the general scheme of things. I have pulled my grade from a D to an A since I have started using these notes. Thank you!! From a grateful student!
I am a graduate student at the University of Ulster in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, where I'm currently studying for a Postgrad Certificate in Biomedical Science which will (hopefully!) lead on to my Masters. Part of the course includes a Fundamentals of Microbiology module. I discovered your MCB 229 notes through a hyperlink from Brock, and I just wanted to congratulate you on an excellent job. Your notes are clear and concise, and provide an excellent overview of the subject. I hope your students realise how fortunate they are! Regards, Heather
As for general feedback about the study guide/ quiz system, I think it is extremely helpful. The study guide questions seem right in their amount and specificity and they really help to focus the material, especially for reading assignments like Ch. 5 and 6 that have a lot of information. I learn the material much better than I would by just reading and underlining. I write out the answers to the study guide questions which hopefully will help with studying for the exam. By the time I read, write those out, and take the quiz, I feel very well prepared for lecture. At that point I feel like I have seen the material/ terminology two or three times and lecture is a chance to review and fill in details. Also, knowing that I need to take the quiz, I try to get the reading done early which gives me time to go over difficult concepts before lecture. The quiz is good practice so I usually take it a second time even if I do alright on the first. Feb. 2000
I attended a session at HCTC last year where you presented suggestions on the use of the www. and other online resources as aids in teaching. Also looked at your web site for the course and realized what a tremendous benefit it was for the students. Your presentation gave me the courage to attempt it. Used , borrowed, stole some of your excellent ideas and have put my syllabus, lecture outlines, hyperlinks to references, announcements, etc. online for my students. My site is not all that sophisticated but will improve with time and as I gain more confidence and skill. The students are responding by using these resources and the feedback from the students has all been very positive...Thanks again for giving me the courage to begin this new process and the ability to take advantage of this powerful resource. It has made me a much better teacher... Mar. 2000
