"Molecule Resume" project

Overview:Procedure:
- One of your assignments for this course is to prepare a one-page "resume" for a molecule found in bacteria, archaea, or viruses. The goal of this activity is for you to demonstate clearly the relationship between the structure of a molecule and the function it serves.
- This project is worth 20 points (out of the 50 points for "to be announced") towards your course grade of 500 points.
- Choose one molecule found in bacteria, archaea, or viruses. This could be a widespread molecule (e.g., peptidoglycan) or something quite specific (e.g. sigma factor, exonuclease enzyme, etc.)
- E-mail the instructor to make sure that this is not a molecule someone else has already picked. There are dozens of interesting molecules, so there's no reason for everyone to pick the same one. Once I've received your e-mail, I'll post your molecule on this list so others can see it and know to pick something different.

- Make a list of important properties of your molecule. Then write an anthropomorphized version of this list (make it have a human characteristics). See an example from student work last year.
- Write a one page resume for your molecule to "sell" its best features and characteristics to a potential employer (the host cell).
- Your grade (20 points maximum) will be based on:
- accuracy of information presented (10 points)
- integration of structure and function information (5 points)
- creativity, presentation, and organization (5 points)
- My goals for you are that you learn all about your molecule so you can get it the best job. And have fun with this project -- be creative and enjoy it.
