Welcome to Microbiology at UConn
May 14, 2003
- Welcome to an exciting course. Although summer courses sometimes get a bad rap, I think you'll find that this 6-week intensive course is the best way to learn microbiology. During the regular semester, students inoculate plates or media, then have to wait a week to find out what grew, by which time many have forgotten what the goal of the exercise was. In summer you'll often be in the lab a day or two after you've started an experiment, so you'll still be "in the groove".
- I know many of you are working part-time and/or taking another course. My strongest recommendation is don't miss lectures! Having partial lecture notes on the web is not an adequate substitute. The class is small enough that I'll know every student by name within a week, and I'll know whether you're here or not. Make daily attendance a priority, and you'll be well prepared for exams and for a good grade.
- If you ever do miss class, check this page for any announcements you may have missed! Also, in case of any emergency or unexpected situation, I will post instructions on this page as soon as possible.
