Virtual Classroom


The University of Connecticut Virtual Classroom is designed to be accessed by any University member, from any University location. For more information on how to access the Virtual Classroom, please select a category listed below.

Math Science Building

Input/Output Room (MSB030)

To access the Virtual Classroom from the terminals in the Input/Output Room, you will first need a mainframe account. When you get one (or if you already have one), you can then log into the mainframe. Log in using your logon id and password, and then type:
USE TCPIP
and then type:
WWW http://virtual.class.uconn.edu
You will then be connected to the Virtual Classroom. Use the TAB key to move between highlighted items, and use the RETURN key to select. Use the PageDown and PageFwd commands (PF7 and PF8, respectively) to scroll up and down multiple page documents.

Macintosh Lab (MSB037)

To access the Virtual Classroom from the Macintosh Lab, you will need a valid UConn ID card. After you log in to the lab with the Consultant on Duty, you then need to use Netscape, an application program which allows you to access the Virtual Classroom. Locate this file, located in the Internet folder of each computer, and double click on
Netscape
and Netscape will appear. Now, click on
File...OpenLocation...
and type
http://virtual.class.uconn.edu
You will be connected with the Virtual Classroom. Simply point and click on the underlined topics to see more information.

Mainframe Consulting / PC Homework Lab (MSB038)

To access the Virtual Classroom from the Mainframe Consulting / PC Homework Lab, you will need a valid UConn ID card. After you log in to the lab with the Consultant on Duty, you then need to use Mosaic, an application program which allows you to access the Virtual Classroom. Locate this file, located via Microsoft Windows in the Applications group of each computer. Select
[M] MICROSOFT WINDOWS
from the blue main menu screen. When Windows appears, open the Applications group, and double click on
Mosaic
Mosaic will appear. Now, click on
File...Open URL...
and type
http://virtual.class.uconn.edu
on the URL: line.
You will be connected with the Virtual Classroom. Simply point and click on the underlined topics to see more information.

Microlab (MSB051)

To access the Virtual Classroom from the Microlab, you will need a valid UConn ID card. After you log in to the lab with the Consultant on Duty, you then need to use Netscape, an application program which allows you to access the Virtual Classroom. Locate this file, located via Microsoft Windows in the Netscape group of each computer. Select
[M] MICROSOFT WINDOWS
from the blue main menu screen. When Windows appears, open the Netscape group, and double click on

Homer Babbidge Library

SuperHomer Workstations (Library Level 1)

To access the Virtual Classroom from the SuperHomer workstations (located to the immediate right of the Information Desk on Level 1 of the Library), you will just need to find an empty machine. There are currently six workstations, each of which are rather busy. If you can locate an empty machine, double click on the icon called
Netscape
which will allow you to use Netscape, the application program needed to access the Virtual Classroom. Once loaded, click on
File...OpenLocation...
and type
http://virtual.class.uconn.edu
You will be connected with the Virtual Classroom. Simply point and click on the underlined topics to see more information.

Culpepper PC Lab (Library Level 3)

Currently, there is no support for the Virtual Classroom in this lab. Please use one of the other resources listed in this document.

Library Terminal Room (Library Level B)

To access the Virtual Classroom from the terminals in the Terminal Room (located in the basement of the Library), you will first need a mainframe account. When you get one (or if you already have one), you can then log into the mainframe. Log in using your logon id and password, and then type:
USE TCPIP
and then type:

24-Hour Room (Library Entry Plaza)

To access the Virtual Classroom from the terminals in the 24-Hour Room (located in the basement of the Library), you will first need a mainframe account. When you get one (or if you already have one), you can then log into the mainframe. Log in using your logon id and password, and then type:

Dormitories

Buckley Computer Room (Buckley Dormitory)

There are both Macintosh computers and Mainframe terminals in this lab.
The Macintosh computers do not currently support access to the Virtual Classroom.

UCEML Gentry Lab (Gentry Building Room 119)

Each of these labs, in addition to other computer labs in academic buildings on campus (Engineering, Arjona, School of Business, for example) are continually updating their offerings. Please contact the consultants or administrators of these labs for more information on their individual offerings.
