History of UConn Poultry Science Club
The UConn Poultry Science Club traces its beginning to the late 1950s when it was called the Banvaka Club. Banvaka is Latin for poultry. The name was changed in 1982 with the arrival of Dr. Michael Darre as Associate Advisor. At this time club membership was opened to include professors and community members with an interest in poultry. The UConn Poultry Science Club has always been very active. Since 1984 the club as made an annual pilgrimage to Atlanta for the Southeast Poultry and Egg Conference. Other outings have included trips to the Royal Canadian Winter Fair in Toronto and various conferences and congresses around Connecticut. In 1998 the club was awarded the Vice Chancelors Award for Service to the Community.
