Assignment for Panel Presentation
on issues raised in
Counseling to End Violence Against Women
Re-read the general assignment information for completing your optional book reading and panel presentation.
Your group presentation will deal with the issues raised by Mollie Whalen. The topic for the week is "Movements to End Violence". This is a very broad and complex subject. Your group is to decide how to best present the various facets of topics raised throughout the book. This book examines counseling to end violence from a subversive model perspective. Explain what the author means by that.
Some possible issues to consider.
1. What does the idea of counseling for social change mean?
2. What did you learn about the various forms of feminism from reading this book? How does each view violence against women
3. What issues confront those who counsel women who have experienced violence?
4. How do issues raised in this book relate to things we have studied thus far this semester?
5. What can feminist thought contribute to addressing this issue?
6. What have you learned about the battered women's movement in relation to a politically subversive approach to counseling?
You are not in anyway limited to these questions. The group is to decide what is to be presented and who is to research which part of your project. This is to be a collaborative effort.
