LIT is accepting submissions for the upcoming special issue:

Nineteenth-Century British Literary Realism
Margaret E. Mitchell, Guest Editor

We seek essays that offer fresh analyses of works by authors arguably working within the tradition of literary realism. Since the very definition of "realism" remains subject to debate, we are especially interested in essays that confront, extend, clarify or otherwise situate themselves in relation to theoretical considerations of realism as a mode of representation. Intersecting concerns might include (but are certainly not limited to) class, gender, economics, and history. Dickens, Gaskell, Eliot, and Gissing are just of few of the authors worthy of attention; we encourage analyses of lesser-known novelists, as well. Although our focus is on British realism, we will welcome essays that examine British realism in the context of writers abroad. Please review our submission guidelines before sending essays for consideration.

Deadline for submissions: September 1, 2002      We also welcome submissions for our upcoming general issues.
