Wa Shin Ryu Nage No Kata

Group 1 (Te Waza - Hand/Arm Techniques)

  1. Morote Mae Kubi Nage
  2. Uke charges Tori with a downward strike to top of the head using club. Uke Initiates action by starting with right leg (right, left, right and strike) Tori steps forward with right foot, blocks with left forearm and receives Uke's throat with right hand (crescent hand). Tori then yields down and sideways by dropping and kneeling on left knee. Left hand grabs Uke's right inside sleeve. Tori continues throw taking Uke down and past own body. Finish kneeling on left knee

  3. Ippon Seoinage
  4. Uke attacks with oblique strike to left side of Tori's head using club. Tori cuts striking arm with both forearms then applies knife edge with right hand to uke's right side of neck. Tori follows through with ippon seoinage.

  5. Kata Guruma
  6. Uke attacks with right frontal punch to face. Tori deflects upwards with left forearm and steps in with right foot while simultaneously slicing upwards into the groin with sharp edge of right forearm. As uke rocks forward Tori fits for kata guruma and throws uke. Tori's right arm is bent at elbow and positioned tight in uke's groin area

  7. Irimi Nage
  8. Uke attacks tori with downward blow using club. Tori executes irimi nage by joining, and strikes uke's throat with bent arm sending uki to ground.

  9. Morote Mae Yubi Nage I (from single hand wrist cross grip)
  10. Uke grabs tori's right wrist with right hand. Tori executes mitsubishi with back of left hand to uke's face. At the same time tori rotates right wrist clockwise over and around uke's hand, takes uke's wrist with right hand and positions uke's hand so that uke's last two fingers face up. Tori takes these two fingers with left hand using pistol grip hand position and secures thumb with right hand. Then Tori swings uke's hand downwards and then up high, steps forward with left foot and pitches uke forward. Uke takes zenpo kaiten.

  11. Morote Ushiro Tekubi Nage from two hand double wrist grab
  12. Uke seizes both of tori's wrists. Tori snap kicks uke's groin and then breaks uke's wrist grab by bringing both hands inwards and then up over uke's. Tori seizes both uke's wrists from above, steps in with right foot and pushes uke's wrists back (from kote gatame position) against uke's shoulders and slightly downward for a two hand rear wrist throw.

  13. Morote Mae Kote Nage ( from hair grab)
  14. Uke grabs tori's hair from front with right hand. Tori places both hands over uke's wrist and delivers backhand strike (with knuckles) agaist uke's nose. Then tori grabs uke's right wrist with right hand as uke pulls right hand back in and bends elbow tori applies kote hinieri, steps across with left foot and throws uke forward. Tori's left hand is on uke's back of right elbow.

  15. Morote Kote Nage (Kote Gaeshi style technique) from knife thrust
  16. Uke executes right hand knife attack into tori's stomach. Tori steps aside (with left then right foot) and seizes uke's right wrist with both hands. Then, as uke pulls arm back in tori turns and steps in with right foot and then back with left to face in the same direction as uke. Executes wrist technique (Kte Kaeshi) with small vertical circling motion forward and throws.

  17. Hiji Garami Nage (from two hand double wrist grab)
  18. Uke grabs both of tori's wrists. Tori snap kicks groin, seizes uke's wrists from above (as in technique #6 ) and steps in and across uke with right foor. Pivots around to face same direction as uke. In this position uke's right arm is straight and left is bent at the elbow in joint lock position. Throw is executed by tori recentering.

    Group 2 (Koshi Waza - Hip Techniques)

  19. Uki Goshi (floating hip)
  20. Uke attacks with club (right hand). Tori "joins" and steps in deep across uke with left leg. Tori's left arm is wrapped around uke's waist. Tori grabs uke's left elbow with right hand and establishes tight chest contact before executing left side uki goshi.

  21. Harai Goshi

Uke wraps both arms around Tori's chest, trapping both arms. Tori strikes Uke's groin with right knee, wraps right arm high around back of Uke and left hand secures grip on Uke's right arm, just above elbow (coming up from underneath). Tori then turns in for right side harai goshi.

12. Sode Tsurikomi Goshi

Uke grabs Tori's lapel with both hands. Tori head butts Uke (on nose) and immediately secures Uke's right elbow with left hand. Tori then seizes Uke's left elbow by coming up from below with right hand and turns in for sode tsurikomi goshi. Emphasis is placed on pulling uke's right arm tight against Tori's chest while Tori's right elbow is driven into uke's left arm pit region.

Group 3 (Ashi Waza - Leg Techniques)

13. Tsurikomi Ashi

Uke grabs Tori round chest locking both Tori's arms. Tori executes scrape andf stomp with left inside foot causing uke to shift weight to left leg. Tori then secures grip with left hand on uke's right elbow and takes uke's left elbow with right hand. Tori then drives uke's right elbow into uke's side of of head while turning to the right, blocking with right foot and pulling out and around (high) with right hand for regular tsurikomi ashi.

14. O-ouchi Gari

Uke executes right kick (mawashi geri) to Tori's left thigh (above the knee). Tori blocks with left forearm and grabs uke's right leg about the shin/calf. Executes front snap kick to groin and then enters for o-ouchi gari (attacking with right leg), taking Uke down. Tori's right hand is placed against uke's right side of neck

15. Osotogari

Uke attacks with right hand oblique hammer fist to temple. Tori blocks with left forearm and strikes collar bone with right hand tegatana (knife edge, shuto). Enters and throws for osotogari.

Group 4 (Sutemi Waza - Sacrifice Techniques)

16. Tani Otoshi

Uke throws punch at Tori's face with right hand. Tori deflects uke's arm (to the inside) using left open hand (connects just above Uke's elbow) and enters for left side tani otoshi. Tori's left leg is outstretched behind uke. Tori's right arm is placed with bent elbow on uke's abdomen (hand about chest level, elbow about belt level) while tori's left hand is used to pull uke down from behind by grabbing uke about the waist. Tori executes tani otoshi and lands partly on the side and partly on top of Uke.

17. Yoko Guruma

Uke attacks Tori with a downward strike using a club. Tori enters fast and low, underneath the striking arm leading with left leg while almost simultaneously drawing in the right leg. Tori places right palm about belt level on uke while wrapping left arm around uke's waist.

Uke then switches attack (still with right hand) toward Tori's head. To avoid blow Tori steps with right foot deep between Uke's legs, sinks low, turns to left and while maintaining a tight fit on Uke pitches Uke over his/her left shoulder. Both of Tori's feet are used to launch Uke.

18. Tomoe Nage (single leg stomach throw)

Uke pushes Tori back about the chest using both hands. Tori takes hold of both of Uke's arms from below about the elbow, drops low and uses one leg to take Uke over and back. Tori positions foot below Uke's waist near groin area. Tori's supporting leg can be placed between Uke's legs or to the outside
