SPECIAL NOTE: THIS APPOINTMENT MAY BE EXTENDED FOR AN ADDITIONAL YEAR (FOR A
TOTAL APPOINTMENT NOT-TO-EXCEED TWO YEARS) WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION.
MAJOR DUTIES:
-- Operates the various valves, fish crowder, and fish lock and computer to
convey fish upstream of Marble Bluff Dam.
-- Collect and record biological data from fish species captured at Marble
Bluff Fish Facility.
-- Computes, compiles and summarizes data in tabular, graphic or narrative
form.
-- Assists Lahontan National Fish Hatchery with Lahontan cutthroat trout egg
collection and other activities.
-- Assists with larvae netting and stream surveys.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all
grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are
acceptable.
Experience and/or Education:
GS-5: A. One year specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-4
level. -OR-
B. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a
bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any
combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3. At least 6
semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to
be filled. The successful completion of a full course of study of at least
12 months in a school for clinical laboratory technicians may be substituted
for the 1 year of specialized experience required at the GS-5 level for
positions involving microbiology and biochemistry technician work.
General Experience: (1) Any work experience which demonstrates the
applicants ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience
which provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the
broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience may be
substituted for general experience.
Specialized Experience: Experience which is in the occupation of this
position, in a related occupation, or in one of the specialized areas within
that occupation, which has equipped the applicant with the particular
knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this
position.
Education: The post-high school education must have been obtained in an
accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or
university for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a
prerequisite. One year of full time undergraduate study is defined as 30
semester hours or 45 quarter hours in a college or university or at least 20
hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a
business or technical school.
A year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of
credit hours which the school attended has determined represents one year of
full-time study. If this number cannot be obtained from the school, 18
semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time
study requirement.
Training: Completion of appropriate training such as inservice training
programs, training acquired while serving in the Armed Forces, and
government- sponsored developmental training programs will be allowed credit
on a month- for-month basis, generally through the GS-5 level. Such
training meets general or specialized experience requirements depending upon
its applicability.
Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully
completed education and experience is qualifying. If education is used to
meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include
courses related to the work of the position.
VETERANS' PREFERENCE: Preference in hiring will be given to applicants
claiming veteran's preference, over those not making a claim. In addition,
veterans claiming 10 point preference may be given preference over veterans
claiming 5 points. Applicants will not receive numerical ratings.
The Defense Authorization Act of November 18, 1997, extended veterans'
preference to persons who served on active duty during the Gulf War from
August 2, 1990, through January 2, 1992. The law grants preference to
persons otherwise eligible and who served on active duty during this period,
regardless of where the person served or for how long. The law also
authorizes the Secretary of each military department to award the Armed
Forces Expeditionary Medal for service in Bosnia during the period of
November 20, 1995, to a date to be determined. The award of the Medal is
qualifying for veterans' preference. More information on veterans'

States Office of Personnel Management web site at www.opm.gov.
