The goals of this course are first to explore in writing the changes in culture and communication that technology in general and the Internet in particular have initiated, and second to teach you to write and design your own web pages.

This course is an S course, which means it fulfills both the W and C requirements of the University. As such, you are getting two courses in one, and the workload is significantly more than either a W course or a C course alone. You will be required to:

• Read regularly, both on the Internet and in traditional sources.
• Write considerably, both on paper and for the Internet. The English department requires 15 pages of finished work. This does not include homework assignments.
• Attend class religiously.
• Learn HTML diligently, and write at least one web page.
• Do your homework conscientiously. This course is structured as a collaborative seminar, so the more you bring to class the more we'll all gain.
• Participate eagerly. This will be more fun if we bring our knowledge together. You must do your homework (research, coding, and reading), and present yourself in discussions.
• Read and comment thoughtfully on each others' work. I will happily read drafts brought to my office hours before the assignment's due date.
• Take charge of your own education responsibly. Most of your efforts will take place independently outside of class.
• Help other students willingly with writing problems, programming problems, etc. This may involve working with partners or groups.
• Do scholarly research excitedly.

If you accept these terms, your classmates and I will assist you in learning things you are unfamiliar with. If you don't accept these terms, I would strongly suggest that you try another course. Please click on the button below to register your choice.
