|
The materials in the Fred Ho Collection offer insight into the development of an Asian American artist and activist, critical analyses of American culture, and an examination of the history, literature, ideas and culture of Asian Americans. The numerous essays and commentaries written by Fred Ho place artistic and political issues within a larger context and explore the relationship between Euro and Asian American experiences. The material in the Collection highlights the Asian American struggle for self-definition and power and provides a broader framework for the redefinition of American personhood. To encourage research use of the Collection by University of Connecticut undergraduates, the Asian American Studies Institute sponsors the Fred Ho Prize in Asian American History and Culture. Inaugurated in 1999 and awarded biennially, Fred Ho prize winners are profiled in The Asian American and receive a monetary award.
