Unfortunately, plans for an extended series of workshops did not materialize as quickly as both partners had hoped. Indeed, the delay has helped us both to recognize the difficulties of long range planning when set against the competition of competing priorities at each institution. The June trip helped to clarify priorities and plans for a series of workshops in November. Of particular note was the news that enrollment at UFH has now risen to 5,300, more than doubling the enrollment of two years ago.

The small delegation was privileged to spend a day with the Distance Education Project, visiting schools and reviewing the program and plans for its expansion. This program has had a major role in the enrollment increase, accounting for some 1,200 students – most of them primary school teachers in in-service programs upgrading training in math, science and language arts. In addition, one member of the delegation worked with the school of agriculture in preliminary planning for an important landscaping project
