September 4 – 6
Visit by Speaker Frene Ginwala, Speaker of the South African Parliament and Chair Naledi Pandor, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces.

The visit highlighted the significance of our relationship with the African National Congress (ANC) and the University of Fort Hare. The visit also generated considerable publicity for the University and its relationship with these South African Institutions, and the vehicles (Mellon Foundation and UNCF/USAID grants), which will assist in strengthening such relationships.

The visit also stimulated considerable interest among women students and faculty on the campus in the realization that the two primary leaders of the South African legislature are both highly talented informed dynamic women.

Aside from discussions of the UConn-ANC Archives, Chair Pandor’s role as a University of Fort Hare trustee member, as well as her experience in teacher education and her position on the legislative Education Committee gave added significance to the role and our linkage with the University of Fort Hare.
