Year in Review - June 2000 to June 2001 July 13 25 Twelve high-ranking University of Connecticut faculty leaders and administrators visited the University of Fort Hare, South Africa and began to assess areas of collaborative partnerships and research as part of the Tertiary Education Linkages Project (TELP). This visit to the University of Fort Hare was a significant success in several regards: The UConn delegation was composed of representatives from admissions/enrollment management, fund raising, public relations, library, academic assistance and the schools of liberal arts, agriculture and education. UConn administrators and faculty received an orientation to the University of Fort Hare. UFH and UConn counterparts met extensively during the week to explore specific issues related to their areas. All areas represented established important relationships. In addition, agreements were reached to assist faculty in Agriculture, Research, the Institute of Governance, the Distance Education Project and the UNESCO Center for Human Rights. Most importantly, the UConn delegation came away with an enhanced personal commitment based on an informed experience that could not have been secured in any other way. Our delegation was most impressed by the commitment of the leadership of UFH to returning that university to its former high standing among South African universities. |
